Javier Nieto, MD, Joins LifeGift’s Surgical Team to Advance Its Mission of Offering Hope

LifeGift, a leading health services organization dedicated to providing hope to individuals in need of organ transplants across 109 counties in Southeast, North, and West Texas, partnering with more than 275 hospitals and 10 transplant centers, proudly announces that Javier Nieto, MD, CSA, CPTC, has joined its surgical team as an abdominal organ recovery surgeon in the Southeast region.

Dr. Nieto is responsible for recovering livers, pancreases and kidneys from deceased donors for transplantation and research. He also collaborates with hospital staff to manage the donor hospital recovery process, performs organ biopsies and facilitates biopsy interpretation to assess organ suitability.

Dr. Nieto first joined LifeGift in May 2015 and previously served as the manager of organ clinical operations for the Southeast region. In that role, he oversaw the planning, development and evaluation of clinical organ operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness within the organ clinical staff.

“Dr. Nieto brings extensive experience in organ donation and recovery surgery, as well as a strong background in clinical research and medical education,” says Yolanda Becker, MD, FACS, FAST, CTBS, vice president and chief medical officer of LifeGift. “He is a highly sought-after lecturer and a key member of our Simulation Center faculty.”

Dr. Nieto earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) in Tampico, Tamaulipas, México. He has been an active member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Society of Transplantation and is widely respected for his expertise in medical operational leadership. He has also presented at numerous national and international industry conferences.
