Families of Donors
Donation saves lives and offers hope to the nearly 12,000 people in Texas waiting for lifesaving organ or tissue transplants. Families embarking on the grieving process find comfort and healing, knowing that their loved one offered the gift of life. It’s at that time they begin a relationship with LifeGift. For us, these are special relationships we will always nurture and honor.
After the death of a loved one, LifeGift will stay close to offer emotional support and a positive donation experience in the midst of sorrow.
Dakota Johnston loved fishing, hunting and everyone he met. Every night he prayed with his parents for a little brother or sister. But at only 8 years old, Dakota suffered an aneurysm caused by an Arterio-Venous Malformation (AVM). He passed away in May 2008. Despite this tragic loss, Dakota’s parents, Steve and Kelly, had the courage to donate his organs and tissue. Dakota’s donation answered the prayers and saved the lives – of five people, including a 5-year-old boy. Dakota’s own prayers were answered when, 14 months after his death, Dakota’s parents, Steve and Kelly, gave birth to twins – Graci and Cash – in July 2009.
