ENG Organ Recovery, in partnership with Houston Methodist Hospital and LifeGift, hosted a heartfelt event centered on the life-changing power of organ donation. College football quarterback and organ donation advocate Marcel Reed joined transplant recipients, donor families and medical professionals for a morning filled with gratitude, connection and storytelling. The event served as a meaningful reminder of how the selfless act of donation can create powerful new bonds and inspire hope.

One of the most moving moments came from heart transplant recipient Peter Mpagi, who received his new heart during his first year of college at Houston Methodist. He was joined by the family of his donor, including Jack Emerling, the donor’s father, who shared how their connection has turned grief into family. Their relationship illustrated the profound emotional impact organ donation has—not only on recipients but also on the families of those who give the gift of life.

Marcel Reed also visited the transplant unit, meeting with patients and sharing words of encouragement. He reflected on how hearing these stories deepened his appreciation for the importance of organ donation. Leaders from ENG, including vice president Cat Wren and director of ground Kalee Blythe, echoed the day’s emotional impact, emphasizing the lasting importance of honoring donor legacies. The event closed with a call to action—to register as donors, speak openly with loved ones and carry forward the message that one life can save many.
