A Look Back at LifeGift’s First-Ever HopeFest

This past Saturday, August 9th, the Lubbock community came together in a big way for LifeGift’s inaugural HopeFest—and what a day it was! Held at the Texas Tech University recreational softball fields, this family-friendly celebration honored the incredible organ, eye and tissue donor heroes whose generosity continues to save lives. It was also a heartfelt reminder of the thousands who are still waiting for their second chance at life through transplantation.

The day was filled with joy, remembrance and a good dose of friendly competition. The main event—a spirited softball showdown between Covenant Health System and University Medical Center—kept the crowd cheering from the first pitch to the last. Around the diamond, families enjoyed delicious bites from local food trucks, face painting for the kids, music from a DJ, a Matador drone display, a photo booth and even the chance to give blood through Vitalant’s mobile unit.

One of the most moving parts of the day was the Honor Path—a walkway lined with personal tributes to donor heroes. Families brought photos, mementos and stories to create signs honoring their loved ones, turning the path into a touching visual celebration of lives lived and lives saved. Some attendees even suited up to join the softball teams, adding an extra layer of meaning to the friendly competition.

Your support not only made our first HopeFest possible but also set the stage for what we know will become a cherished annual tradition in West Texas. Here’s to the heroes, hope and home runs!
