Pride Month: Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community

June 2, 2023

June is Pride Month, when the world’s LGBTQ+ communities come together and celebrate the freedom to be themselves.

Pride gatherings are rooted in the arduous history of individuals who have struggled for decades to overcome prejudice and be accepted for simply who they are. The original organizers chose the month of June to pay homage to the Stonewall uprising in June 1969 in New York City, which helped spark the modern gay rights movement. Most Pride events take place each year in June, although some cities hold their celebrations at other times of the year.

Below, are suggested ways you can get involved this year to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

LifeGift will host a donor registration/information table at The Community Pride Celebration at Montrose Clinic on June 17th and attend the Houston Pride Parade taking place downtown at City Hall on June 24th both in Houston, Texas.

Please join us in celebrating Pride Month! There are many opportunities to show support, to observe, listen and be educated. To learn more about organ, eye and tissue donation and the LGBTQ+ community and find out how you can register to be a donor, please click here.
