Yolanda Becker, MD, FACS, FAST, CTBS, is a nationally recognized leader in transplant surgery and serves as vice president and chief medical officer at LifeGift. In this role, she provides strategic clinical and operational leadership to advance organ and tissue recovery, with a focus on optimizing donor management, employing cutting edge technology and expanding research. With more than two decades of experience in transplant surgery, Dr. Becker brings a comprehensive understanding of the complex intersection between clinical practice, ethical stewardship and system-wide coordination necessary to enhance donor utilization and save lives.
Dr. Becker has held faculty and leadership roles at the University of Wisconsin, University of Chicago Medicine and the Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University. As a transplant surgeon, she directed both adult and pediatric kidney transplant programs, combining advanced surgical expertise with compassionate patient care. She also held academic positions as professor of surgery and medical education and led professional and career development efforts to prepare future generations of physicians. Her dedication to advancing surgical education is further underscored by her fellowships in surgical education research and leadership training programs such as the Executive Leaders in Academic Medicine and the Physician Leadership Academy. She has been a national leader and served as president of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) and participated in the writing of the recent National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) report assessing the U.S. transplant system.
A graduate of The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. Becker completed her surgical residency and transplant fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the University of Wisconsin, respectively. She maintains her board certification in general surgery through the American Board of Surgery. Beyond her clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Becker serves on multiple advisory boards of nonprofit organizations that focus on organ donor advocacy and support research funding.
