Your Pride Lives On
Donate Life Texas is leading the way in reaching the LBGTQ+ community about organ, eye and tissue donation by participating in various Pride events throughout the state.
On Saturday, June 23, Donate Life Texas made its debut at the Houston Pride Festival and Parade, the fourth largest gathering of its kind in the United States. Donate Life Texas staff and volunteers helped register new donors and educated the community that “YES” they can register as organ donors – regardless of who they love. This is thanks to the HIV Organ Policy Equity Act (HOPE Act), which provides transplant opportunities for HIV positive patients who are willing to accept organs from HIV-positive donors.
“A huge thank you to the DLT supporting organizations for helping to spread the Donate Life Pride unified message,” said Kim Charles, executive director of Donate Life Texas. “Participating in events like these across the state of Texas has really shown the fantastic way Texas is striving to save and heal lives! Our combined efforts resulted in 190 new donors added to the registry, and 212 people re-registered!”
In addition to the Houston event, Donate Life Texas had a presence in El Paso, The Valley and San Antonio and will also have a presence at Dallas Pride this September. Thank you to the following organizations who helped DLT educate Pride attendees that their Pride CAN Live On – GenCure, LifeGift, Southwest Transplant Alliance, Texas Organ Sharing Alliance and University Transplant Center.
