Quarterly Update from Kevin Myer
Time is flying by and April is upon us. All of us at LifeGift are excited about National Donate Life Month. We have many events and activities planned over the next six weeks to help reach our goal of seeing 8 million Texans on the Donate Life Texas Registry by the end of 2016.
A brand new and very exciting added event this year is set for Saturday, April 25, at the NRG Park across from our Houston office. This event is designed to bring our community together to show how we offer hope through the gifts of organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation. Visit www.2ndChanceRun.org to register. We are bringing this exciting fun run to Houston from Fort Worth where, on May 16, more communities will join together for the 13th year of this tradition at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Both of these runs give us a chance to remember all of the many donors and their families who have so wonderfully provided life to neighbors in great need. These events are proof that generosity exceeds all expectations and that transplantation works.
We have been busy with continuing work to improve our culture, invest in infrastructure, increase clinical competency training, and provide more training in patient safety to improve the quality of services we provide.
We are also involved in nine very important research projects with various leading organizations, such as Stanford University’s Donor Heart Study, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which will provide evidence-based strategies for the evaluation and acceptance of donor hearts for transplantation.
This type of work follows the newly minted strategic plan that the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors developed over 2014 and early 2015. It gives us an exciting roadmap to make sure we continue to evolve as a vibrant health care organization working to serve our community through organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation.
I hope you will consider walking, running or volunteering at the fun runs this spring!
Thank you for all you do. Have a great National Donate Life Month!
