Fort Worth Community Offers Hope at Stockyards Station
On Saturday, May 17, nearly 900 runners and walkers gathered at the Stockyards Station in Fort Worth to raise awareness of organ, eye and tissue donation at the Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run.
Among the runners was Clutch, the official mascot of the Houston Rockets. Robert Boudwin, the man behind Clutch, has a special connection to donation in that his father received double lungs from a Fort Worth area donor in February 2012. Champ, the mascot for the Dallas Mavericks, joined Clutch in running the 5K.
Deana Jones DeWeese, donor mom, was recognized as the first person to register for the run along with Team Xander, who had the largest team.
Mike and Berni Elder, donor parents and LifeGift volunteers, are all smiles during the Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run.
The Stockyards was a new venue for the 2nd Chance Run. Runners and walkers enjoyed the historical setting in downtown Fort Worth.
Cris and Misty Vento, parents of Xander Vento, organ donor at the precious age of 4, built the largest team for the 2nd Chance Run with more than 100 members.
