Under the beautiful waterfall in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC), the 7th Annual TMC Celebration of Life was a wonderful event that brought together all aspects of donating life.
Hospital staff, nurses, doctors, transplant recipients, donor families, living donors, volunteers and members of the LifeGift team came together to commemorate National Donate Life Month by honoring those who have been touched by the powerful miracles of organ, eye and tissue donation. Keith Garvin, KPRC 2 News (Houston’s NBC affiliate) anchor, emceed the celebration and brought an extra flair for engagement as he incorporated an audience super selfie.
Speakers included Rusty Roberts of LifeGift; Bill McKeon of the Texas Medical Center; Maria Benavides, living donor; Melissa Porter, donor mother; Reggie and Gloria King, heart transplant recipients; Randy Creech, heart transplant recipient; and Elsy Espinoza, mother to a transplant recipient. They connected with the audience as they shared their legacies of hope, determination, triumph, giving and thanks for second chances at life. Speakers also shared remarkable memories of heroes who saved countless lives in their passing. Guests patted their faces with tissue as they honored those who donated life.
The 7th Annual TMC Celebration of Life provided a platform to infuse hope into the community. It gave transplant recipients the chance to say thank you to their tremendous heroes. The celebration also gave donor families and living donors the opportunity to preserve the legacies of the selfless gifts that transcended into miracles. It surely was a celebration.
