One of the biggest storms in U.S. history dumped record amounts of rain on the Houston area, impacting many of our staff and their families. In our time of need, we’ve seen the community rally around and offer hope to those who offer it on a daily basis.

The night of Friday, Aug. 26, was just the beginning of the most devastating disaster to ever hit the Lone Star State. Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast, bringing torrential rains to virtually every corner of the greater Houston area. The rains lasted for days, flooding major roadways and homes, while forcing many people to evacuate to higher ground.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, LifeGift made history with the first-ever Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run in Lubbock.

Nearly 300 participants, including a family from England, came out to Mackenzie Park to celebrate the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation.

ECHO stands for Every Community Has Opportunity – the opportunity to save and heal lives. Donate Life ECHO began in 2015 as a collaborative partnership between the Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation (AMAT) and Donate Life America (DLA). It is a nationwide observance focused on the importance of donation and transplantation in multicultural communities.

The hit song from 1971 “I’ve Never Been to Spain” by Three Dog Night holds true for most of us, but not for LifeGift Ambassadors of Hope Tina Rueles and her mom, Martha Rueles!  

The two jetted off to Malaga, Spain, on June 23 so that Tina, a double-lung recipient, could join the more than 2,000 athletes from 52 countries around the world to compete in the World Transplant Games.

The 15th anniversary of the Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run in Fort Worth broke attendance records on an overcast, cool morning in Fort Worth on Saturday, May 20. It was a goal we had been inching towards for nearly four years. In addition to the 1,000+ runners and walkers, there were more than 200 supporters, cheerleaders and volunteers in the race village.
