There’s Hope in the Silver Lining
Kim and Michael Garcia were joyfully expecting their firstborn, a son to be named Simon Alexander. But halfway through their pregnancy they learned that their son would not survive. Despite this emotional storm, the Garcias decided that carrying Simon to term was the right thing to do.
Simon Alexander Garcia was born on June 28, 2013, with a head full of gorgeous hair. Kim and Michael were able to hold him and love on him for one precious hour before he passed away. It is an hour that they will always cherish. Although Simon only lived a short while, his legacy will live on much longer. The Garcias donated his heart valves, which saved a little girl in Dallas. “The moment you are made aware that your donation has helped someone else live, you will be given strength,” Kim said. “You may even have a newfound peace in knowing that your loved one is living through someone else.”
The Garcias’ faith led them through a trying time. They returned to their lives, Michael working full time and Kim attending nursing school. In the fall of 2015, they were excited to discover that they were once again pregnant. Kim delivered a beautiful and healthy 9.5-ounce baby girl, Jessie Mae, on April 21, 2016.
The Garcias’ hearts were once again whole. And although they will never ever forget their firstborn, baby Simon, they know that God has richly blessed them with baby Jessie.
