Quarterly Update From Kevin Myer - August 2016
LifeGift is busier than ever with dramatic increases in organ and tissue donation and transplantation so far this year. Our talented and dedicated staff have been working to develop improved practices and services to help make donation opportunities result in actual transplants for the patients and community we serve.
The generosity of donors and donor families continues to be incredible as the Donate Life Texas registry is now approaching 9 million Texans. When you think about it, it’s amazing that just a few years ago we were sitting at 4 million registrations and we thought we were making progress. We have many to thank for this increase in donor registrations, most notably our Ambassadors of Hope and the Department of Public Safety. Throughout the year so far, we have repeated months during which we helped our transplant partner programs transplant more than 100 organs, bringing hope and second chances to so many and their families.
We have moved into our new state-of-the-art Communication Center for Donation and initiated training programs in the new training center in Houston – with a special focus on increasing authorization rates through improved communication and support for families in crisis. We have also started construction on the new Fort Worth facility, scheduled to open in late 2017.
All of these areas I mention demonstrate that LifeGift is vibrant, growing and increasing our collective impact and community benefit – topics I focused on when I began serving as CEO of LifeGift in 2013. While it has taken a few years to see these strong improvements, we are now helping more people than ever before. Amazing progress, amazing dedication of our staff, amazing collaboration with our hospital and transplant program partners, and as always, amazing generosity of those who give in the midst of tragedy in the hope that something good can come from any situation.
Hope is strong at LifeGift and in our community. It drives our work every day. We Offer Hope.
