On Saturday, Feb. 20, the lives of perfect strangers intersected when the family of Corey Taylor, organ donor from Ben Taub General Hospital, had the rare opportunity to meet some of his recipients.
Cathy Taylor, Corey’s mother, along with her husband, Charles, and Corey’s oldest son, JaCorey, came face-to-face with those whose lives were saved through Corey’s generous and lifesaving gifts.
Joseph LaChance from Lake Jackson, Texas, received Corey’s lungs, and Jammie Cage from Houston, Texas, received Corey’s left kidney. The two recipients and their families expressed their immense gratitude to the Taylor family for bestowing them with the gift of life.
Corey passed away on July 19, 2013, in a tragic accident. A father of two young boys and an athlete, Corey is described by his mother as a giving, friendly, kind-hearted and generous individual whose motto was “live life to the fullest because you never know when it will be your time, so have fun and enjoy every moment of life.”
