Donor Resource Center Specialist talks about her experience with donation
My name is Pamela Johnson, and I’m donor resource center specialist with LifeGift. I’ve been approaching families about donation for the last 6 years. In my job role here, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with families that I never imagined I would talk to. Over the years, there have been a couple of families who have stayed in my mind and serve as a constant reminder of how important donation is to others and the unselfishness of a family that’s mourning over the loss of their loved one.
One family in particular stands out in my mind. The father had gotten up in the middle of the night and picked up his baby boy to relieve the mother from her duties by putting the baby in bed with him. He later discovered that he’d rolled over the baby and that the baby had died. The father was so distraught, but the fact that the coupled wanted to continue and help another family through donation was absolutely wonderful.
My heart goes out to each and every family that donates each and every time and this family, in particular, will always be in my heart.
