St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Declared Winner in LifeGift's Donate Life - Texas Registry Challenge

St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital Declared Winner in LifeGift’s Donate Life – Texas Registry Challenge

This past April, during National Donate Life Month,  LifeGift pitted four Texas Medical Center institutions against each other to see which one could generate the greatest number of registrants to the Donate Life –Texas Registry. St. Luke’s Hospital was declared the winner, closely followed by Memorial Hermann TMC, The Methodist Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Approximately 10 percent of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital’s employee base participated in the challenge, either by registering as donors or by providing proof that they were already registered.  St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital added 209 new names to the registry and collected information on 277 employees who verified they were registered donors via a red heart in the bottom right-hand corner of their driver’s license or a donor card downloaded from www.donatelifetexas.org.

"St. Luke's is thrilled and honored to have won this challenge.  It was very exciting to see our staff so motivated to win this competition; a healthy competition which will help save lives," said Margaret Van Bree, MHA, DrPH, chief executive officer, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and senior vice president, St. Luke's Health System.

Memorial Hermann TMC made it a tight race with 9 percent of its employee base participating, while The Methodist Hospital and Texas Children’s reported 7 percent.

Together, the four TMC institutions added 900 new organ, eye and tissue donors to the state registry.

“We’d like to thank all four hospitals for helping us add more names to the donor registry,” said Sam Holtzman, president and CEO of LifeGift. “The hospitals not only generated more registrants; each facility also heightened awareness of donation among their staffs.  Healthcare professionals are by far some of our strongest advocates and we hope that they will take the donation message into their local communities.”
