In March of 2004, after dating for 13 years, Todd and Julie Krampitz were married. In May of 2004, Todd was diagnosed with HCC, primary liver cancer. After months of fighting for his life, Todd received a successful liver transplant in August. Julie said, “The gift of life was given to Todd by a family who selflessly gave their loved one’s organ. We will always be extremely thankful and grateful to this generous and caring family.”
Thanks to this gift, Todd and Julie were able to enjoy many happy months together and celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary. Unfortunately Todd was still having to battle with cancer. On April 20, 2005, his fight ended and he left this earth. He was able to give a gift of his own by donating his corneas.
Todd touched the lives of many through his life and death. Julie started The Todd Krampitz Foundation to carry on his message of the importance of donation. The TK Foundation is a part of the Run for a Reason with the Houston Chevron Marathon. In 2010, the foundation donated $10,000 to LifeGift.
The 2011 Marathon is coming up on Sunday, January 30. Several LifeGift employees and Vital Volunteers are running as a part of the TK Foundation, including myself. I am looking forward to a being a part of this wonderful team and honoring the memory of Todd.
