
R. Patrick Wood, M.D.
Medical Director, North and Southeast Regions
Dr. R. Patrick Wood was born in Newport, Rhode Island, and went to college at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. After graduating summa cum latte, he attended medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York. He completed a five-year surgical residency at New York University in New York City, and a one-year fellowship in transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh. He then accepted a position as an associate professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dr. Wood was recruited to establish a liver transplant program at the University of Texas and Hermann Hospital and Hermann Children’s Hospital. He also started the liver transplant programs at Texas Children’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital. Dr. Wood has served as a regional medical director since 1990 and has served on the LifeGift Board of Directors for the past decade. In addition to being a former president of the Texas Transplant Society, he has served on a number of UNOS committees. He is presently the LifeGift regional medical director for the Southeast and North Regions.
