April 29 honors those who gave the ultimate gift
HOUSTON, TEXAS (Apr. 21, 2010) -- The Houston Astros and their fans will have the opportunity to honor those who gave the ultimate gift -- the gift of life through organ and tissue donation on Thursday, Apr. 29 as the Houston Astros take on the Cincinnati Reds at 7:05 p.m.
Prior to the game, those in attendance can learn more about organ and tissue donation and sign up to be registered donors via the Glenda P. Dawson Donate Life - Texas Registry.
As part of Organ Donor Awareness Night at Minute Maid Park, the Houston Astros are offering special LifeGift/Donate Life Houston ticket pricing. The discount pricing ranges from $10 to $32 depending upon the seats: View Deck II ($10), View Deck (I) $12, Mezzanine ($16), Bullpen Boxes ($21) and Field Box ($32). A percentage of the proceeds from each ticket sold will go back to LifeGift to help further raise awareness of the critical need for organ and tissue donors in Houston.
"LifeGift would like to thank the Houston Astros for this unique opportunity to encourage more people to sign the registry," said Sam Holtzman, president and CEO of LifeGift. "In the five minutes it takes to sign up to be an organ and tissue donor, one person has the potential to save the lives of more than 80 people."
Courtesy of The Methodist Hospital, the first 10,000 guests will receive an Astros tote bag with a hang tag about organ donation. Methodist will honor transplant patients and physicians in a pre-game ceremony and first pitch.
