LifeGift Teams Up with The Todd Krampitz Foundation to Increase Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness
HOUSTON (July 20, 2010) -- Two Houston-area organizations are joining forces to end the blood, marrow, organ and tissue shortages.
LifeGift, the Houston-based organization that recovers organs and tissues for Texans needing lifesaving transplants and the Todd Krampitz Foundation, which is dedicated to raising awareness of organ and tissue donation, are teaming up for the 2011 Chevron Houston's Marathon Run for a Reason Charity Campaign.
"By participating in this program, you will be helping save lives by increasing blood, marrow, organ and tissue donor awareness," said Julie Krampitz, president of the Todd Krampitz Foundation. "Currently there are more than 108,000 people across the country waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant and the number continues to grow."
The Chevron Houston Marathon's Run for a Reason Charity program is an avenue for marathon participants and non-participants to raise money for the Todd Krampitz Foundation. The program offers guaranteed ways to enter the marathon and half-marathon races. The Todd Krampitz Foundation plans to give LifeGift a portion of the funds raised to help increase donor awareness in Texas, which currently has the lowest rate of registered donors across the country.
The Todd Krampitz Foundation was founded in 2005 in memory of Todd, Julie's husband. Todd received a liver transplant in 2004, which extended his life, enablling him to spend quality time with Julie, including their one-year anniversary. Unfortunately, Todd lost hi battle to liver cancer in 2005.
"Todd touched the lives of so many and has made a difference in the world of organ donation," said Julie. "Through the Todd Krampitz Foundation, we continue to spread the word because life is a gift, give it!"
