Jerry's Chevrolet Commits to Saving Lives Through Organ and Tissue Donation

Jerry' Chevrolet Commits to Saving Lives Through Organ and Tissue Donation

July 19, 2011 (Fort Worth, Texas) -- The largest new car dealer in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex recently pledged its support to help the nearly 11,000 Texans in need of a lifesaving organ transplant.

Jerry's Chevrolet, located in Weatherford, is now an official Workplace Partner with LifeGift, the nonprofit organ recovery agency with offices in Southeast, North and West Texas.

Spearheaded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the Workplace Partnership for Life initiative was designed to increase donor awareness among Fortune 500 companies, hospitals, schools and other entities. As part of the program, Jerry's Chevrolet will provide educational resources to its staff and encourage organ and tissue donation among its customers.

LifeGift's Workplace Partners, which include a variety of different companies and organizations, are instrumental in driving awareness of the Glenda P. Dawson Donate Life - Texas Registry, the official database of all Texans who consent to being organ and tissue donors upon their deaths. While the registry continues to gain momentum, less than 10 percent of eligible Texans are registered organ, eye and tissue donors.

Texans can register as organ and tissue donors in one of three ways:

1. Electronically on the Donate Life Texas Website: www.donatelifetexas.org;

2. Through the Department of Public Safety (DPS) when renewing a driver's license or obtaining an ID;

3. Online with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when renewing vehicle registration.
