SPECIFICS:
Dr. Victor Miranda, a Houston-area physician, died suddenly on Dec. 11, 2008 from an undetected congenital heart defect. His wife, Lisa Miranda; daughter, Ashley; and sons Michael and Andrew, made the decision -- without hesitation -- that their husband and father would want to be an organ and tissue donor. Through his death, Dr. Miranda gave life to four others through organ donation and enhanced the lives of more than 50 people through tissue donation.
Dr. Miranda was honored this past January by Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors, a Dignity Memorial provider on the 121st Tournament of Roses Parade in the Donate Life America float entry, "Life Rises." Seventy-six individuals throughout the country were honored with floragraphs -- portraits made of floral and other materials on the float. The Donate Life float rides and floragraph honorees represented the millions of people touched by organ and tissue donation, including donor families, transplant recipients and those waiting for a second chance at life.
