Heart recipient – June 30, 1999, St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta
Just as Dallas Foster loved music before he ever picked up a guitar, he was involved with organ and tissue donation long before he needed a heart transplant.
Nearly a decade ago his mother died after an automobile accident, and the family followed her wishes and donated her organs and tissues. His mother shared her decision in the early 1980s when donation was discussed at family gatherings.
Dallas’ family didn’t know then that, in 1999, a heart transplant would save his life. Since then, every member of Dallas’ family has decided to become a donor. It’s that kind of single-minded dedication that led him to volunteer and tout organ and tissue donation in a big way – becoming LifeGift’s 2005 Southeast Region Volunteer of the Year.
And how does he feel about life after his transplant? Look no further than the name of his blues band – “Just Got Lucky” – for the answer.
