American Jet International Partners with LifeGift in Lifesaving Mission
Airline that recovers organs joins the fight to save lives
Houston, Texas (July 12, 2011) -- In a time where businesses are scrutinizing the bottom line now more than ever, American Jet International is making decisions that make it feel connected to the community it serves. One of the largest fixed-based operators for private aviation in the world, American Jet International recently announced that it will join the fight to promote organ and tissue donor awareness in the state of Texas.
American Jet International is the first airline carrier to become a Workplace Partner with LifeGift, the local agency that recovers organs and tissues for individuals needing transplants in North, Southeast and West Texas. Spearheaded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the Workplace Partnership for Life initiative is designed to increase donor awareness among Fortune 500 companies, hospitals and other entities. As a Workplace Partner, American Jet International will provide educational resources to its staff and encourage organ and tissue donation among its service community. American Jet International is the official air carrier that transports organs all over the country for individuals needing transplants for LifeGift.
“We know that each flight we take on behalf of LifeGift means that someone is waiting for the gift of life,” said Roger Woolsey, CEO for American Jet International. “We are humbled to take part in this true lifesaving mission.”
Nationally, there are more than 110,000 men, women and children waiting for a lifesaving transplant. In Texas, alone there are almost 11,000 people.
“Saving lives is what we strive to do every day and partners like American Jet International are crucial to our success,” said Janice Whaley, Managing Director of Clinical Operations for LifeGift. “We look forward to deepening our relationship with American Jet and thank them for furthering their commitment to saving lives through donation.”
While the Glenda P. Dawson Donate Life – Texas Registry is gaining momentum and numbers have improved dramatically, less than 10 percent of Texans over the age of 18 are registered. Registering to become an organ, eye and tissue donor is simple. It’s free and it takes less than five minutes. There are three easy ways to register:
- Electronically via www.donatelifetexas.org.
- In person at the Department of Public Safety Office (DPS) or the DPS website.
- Online with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when renewing vehicle registration.
