A Day in the Life

Hello my name is Maurice Goodwin and I've been working in the field of organ donation for over six years. I am proud to say it is not just a profession, it's a lifestyle. No matter how tired you feel, or where you are- what you are doing, life just stops. Then the adrenaline kicks in.
It's a beautiful thing to be part of something greater than you. To see the smiles and tears of joy on a recipient's family face when they receive the good news. To witness a major event in their lives that their hopes and prayers have been answered is a priceless thing.
I remember looking down at a small child who caught me by surprise. He walked up to me and bear hugged my leg, thanking me for bringing him a new liver to a hospital in Chicago. This happened as we were preparing to celebrate National Donate Life Month, I was putting up posters in the hospital cafeteria. Everyone was watching, nurses and some onlookers cried. It was hard for me to speak.
There is no other job that I can think of which helps save so many lives and so often. It's a great lifestyle.
