LifeGift Offers Hope to Thousands During National Donate Life Month
National Donate Life Month 2016 was full of inspirational events to help raise awareness of our lifesaving mission. From flag raising ceremonies to sporting events to a fun run, LifeGift offered hope to transplant recipients, donor families and those waiting for a second chance during a myriad of activities.
A Child’s Gift: A True Living Legacy
On April 3, 2016, an emotional gathering of donor families and transplant recipients took place in Fort Worth. LifeGift, along with Cook Children’s, brought 14 donor families and 17 transplant recipients together. Attendees had the opportunity to meet face-to-face.
Texas Medical Center Celebration of Life
On April 4, LifeGift kicked off National Donate Life Month with its annual Texas Medical Center Celebration of Life. Every face of donation – donor family, recipient, living donor and candidate for donation was represented.
Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run hosted by LifeGift (Houston)
On Saturday, April 16, nearly 500 runners and walkers gathered to raise awareness of organ, eye and tissue donation during the Donate Life Texas 2nd Chance Run hosted by LifeGift.
Throughout the month, many other events took place, including Donate Life Texas Night at the Houston Dynamo game and festivities for National Blue and Green Day. Students Unite to Give Hope (SUGH), an awareness project in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Be the Match, was also rolled out at Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern University with high hopes to carry it forward to other area schools in 2017.
Thank you to the LifeGift staff, Ambassadors of Hope, hospital partners and community supporters for a tremendous National Donate Life Month!
