LifeGift Names New Managing Director in Fort Worth

(Fort Worth, Texas - Oct. 18, 2016) – LifeGift, the federally-designated organ and tissue recovery agency, which offers hope to individuals needing transplants in 109 Texas counties in Southeast, North and West Texas,  today announced that Donna R. Smith has been named the new managing director of its office in Fort Worth.

In this role, Donna will manage the day-to-day operations of LifeGift’s North Region, which covers nine counties.

Donna joins LifeGift from LifeBanc in Cleveland, Ohio, where she served as the director of procurement and preservation services. In this role, she had oversight of all areas of the organ donation processes, designed and developed an in-house organ recovery center and managed key transplant/donor hospital partner relationships.  Prior to joining LifeBanc, Donna was the director of organ procurement at Mid-American Transplant Services in St. Louis, Missouri.

“Donna, with her innovative leadership style and deep experience in organ, eye and tissue donation, will be a great asset to the executive leadership team,” said Kevin Myer, president and CEO of LifeGift. “I look forward to her many contributions as she helps to shape the future of our Fort Worth region.”

Donna began her career at St. Louis University Hospital as an ICU nurse, where she was responsible for the care of critically ill patients, charge nurse and preceptor. In 2012, she served an examiner for the Missouri Quality Award.

 She is a member of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations and serves as the treasurer of the Organ Donation and Research Consortium and is a member at large for the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network’s Membership and Professional Standards Committee

She received her associate degree in nursing from St. Louis Community College in St. Louis, Missouri and a Master of Nursing with certification in organizational leadership from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
