LifeGift Makes Strategic Leadership Changes to Meet Growing Needs of Organization

(Feb. 19, 2018) – LifeGift, the federally-designated organ and tissue recovery agency, which offers hope to individuals needing transplants in 109 Texas counties in Southeast, North and West Texas, today announced key changes and re-alignment of leadership responsibilities, including three promotions.

Donna R. Smith, MSN, RN was promoted to vice president, organ operations. In this role, she assumes full responsibility for LifeGift’s organ leadership and will work closely with LifeGift’s chief medical officer on strategic direction of organ recovery services. Previously, Donna served as the managing director of LifeGift’s North Region based in Fort Worth. She joined LifeGift in 2016 from Lifebanc in Cleveland, Ohio where she was director of procurement and preservation services.

“Donna has done a remarkable job with the development of our North Region office and operations,” said Kevin Myer, MSHA, president and CEO of LifeGift. “We need to leverage her experience in donation, Baldridge-level quality and her strong leadership skills to support our continuing growth and drive performance improvement.  I look forward to see her evolve in this role.”

Brian Roe, MS, CTBS, SSLBBP, was promoted to vice president, tissue and communication center operations. He joined LifeGift in 2014 as managing director of tissue and his role evolved into leadership of both tissue operations and LifeGift’s Communication Center for Donation.  Before his promotion to vice president, Brian served as senior managing director. Under his leadership, the tissue recovery program grew from 673 donors in 2014 to 1,078 in 2017. Brian joined LifeGift in 2014 from Community Tissue Services in Indianapolis, Ind., where he served as the director of tissue services.

“Brian’s extensive experience and proven leadership track record have prepared him well for this next level of leadership and accountability,” said Kevin.   “The complexity of expanding tissue operations and business growth in the CCD demand a fully focused vice president.”

David Staley, SPHR, also is being promoted to vice president of human resources and organizational development from senior managing director. David joined LifeGift in 2015. He previously served as director of human resources for LifeNet Health, an organ and tissue recovery agency and tissue processor in Virginia.

“David has built an incredible HR team and service delivery for LifeGift, helping us grow from around 200 employees to over 260 today. His creation of a comprehensive organizational development program and his leadership in audit readiness has helped us improve and grow for the future,” said Kevin.

Donna, Brian and David will join Kevin, Patricia Rubin, LifeGift’s senior executive vice president and chief financial officer and Dr. Patrick Wood, vice president and chief medical officer, to form the strategic governance council for the organization.
